Need to edit, print, or share one or a few pages out of a lengthy PDF document? Did you know you can extract pages from PDFs very easily and for free on your mobile device? In this blog post, we’ll show you how to extract pages from PDF with just a few taps if you don’t have a computer on hand.
Split PDFs into Any Number of Pages
The solution to this problem is very simple, and you’ve probably guessed it already—mobile apps! However, very few apps allow you to extract pages from PDF, and those that do usually require a premium subscription.
In iScanner, an easy-to-use PDF scanner app, you can do it for free on your mobile device. It works on both iOS and Android, there are no ads, and no branded watermarks will be applied to your documents should you need to share them. Here’s how to extract pages from PDF in the iScanner app.
Scroll to find the pages you want to extract from your PDF and tap on them. Little circles to the left of the selected pages should turn blue.
Next, tap Split.
Within the next menu, tap Extract Selected and then Extract at the top right.
Lastly, you’ll need to choose whether you want to save your extracted pages as a single PDF file or as separate PDF files. All done! Your extracted pages will be saved to the root folder. You can move them to another folder anytime.
How to Extract a Page from PDF
Find your PDF file or import it to the iScanner app.
Tap the three dots underneath the file name to open the actions menu.
Next, choose Split from the menu.
This will take you to the selection screen where you’ll see all the pages. Now, tap the page you wish to extract—a blue checkmark should appear on the page.
Next, tap Extract in the top right corner. Your page will be saved as a separate PDF file in the root folder—you can now move it to another folder, rename it, or edit it.
How to Extract Pages from PDF and Save Each as a Separate PDF File
Should the need arise, you can also split your PDF and save each page as a separate PDF file using the iScanner app. This removes the need to repeat the splitting operation multiple times.
To do this, complete numbers one through three from the section above and then tap Extract All at the bottom. Each page will be saved to the root folder as a separate PDF file.
Move Pages from One PDF Document to Another
Sometimes we need to extract a page or several pages from a PDF—not to save it as a separate file but to make it a part of another PDF document. Normally, this would mean splitting a PDF first and then merging the page(s) in question with that PDF.
We’ve prepared a shortcut for you to make the process a whole lot easier and quicker—you can simply move your page from one PDF file to another without having to split and merge:
Open your PDF in the iScanner app.
Next, tap the blue checkmark in the top left.
Then, scroll to find the pages you want to move to another PDF file and tap each page. Little circles to the left of the selected pages should turn blue.
Now, tap Move at the bottom of the screen. You will see the Back to My Files button at the top—tap on it and choose the PDF file to which you want to move your selected pages.
Your selected pages will be moved to the PDF of your choice and become the last pages of the document. You can easily rearrange pages within the PDF by long-tapping and dragging them to where they should be.
Easily Extract Sections and Chapters from PDFs
Quite often, we need to extract pages from PDFs that belong to the same chapter or section of a document. If the chapter in question is lengthy, tapping every single page on the selection screen might take a while. To save your index finger from overexertion, we’ve added a Split by Range feature that allows you to extract pages from PDFs with literally two taps—at the beginning and end of your chapter.
How to Extract Pages from PDF by Page Range
Open the iScanner app and find your PDF.
Tap the three dots underneath the file name to open the actions menu.
Next, choose Split from the drop-down list.
This will take you to the page preview of your PDF. Now, tap Split by Range.
If you want to split your file into two parts, you need to tap only once at the page where you want to split it. If you want to extract a range of pages, then you’ll need to mark two pages—at the beginning of your desired page range and at the end.
Choose whether you want to keep the original file or just the selected page range. All done!
