Data Protection in iScanner: Privacy by Design

Today, we rely on mobile apps for our daily needs so much that almost every aspect of our lives can be tracked and logged—from pictures we take to songs we like, from online purchases to documents we create, from food delivery to the number of steps we make daily. However, data processing by mobile apps can pose a serious threat to our security and privacy. This is why we need to be exceptionally careful with whom we entrust our data to. In this blog post, we’d like to answer the most frequently asked questions about data protection in iScanner to give you a clear picture.

1. Who has access to my files in the iScanner app?

No one but you. Neither iScanner nor any third parties can access the files you store in the app, unless you explicitly decide to share them.

2. Does iScanner collect personal information without my knowledge or consent?

No. We will only collect your personal information, such as your name and email address, etc., if you choose to share it with us. For example, if you contact us to report a problem with the app, we will use the personal information you provided to get back to you on the issue (i.e., we’ll send an email to the email address from which you emailed us). However, you can always contact us afterward and request this information be deleted.

3. Does iScanner trade personal information?

No, iScanner will neither trade nor rent your personal information to any third party.

4. The app has access to my camera roll—does it mean you can access pictures I take?

No. iScanner needs access to your camera because it uses it for scanning. We also need technical access to your camera roll to analyze the scanned document info (file format, number of pages, etc.). However, we cannot collect, store, or use the data contained in your camera roll.

5. I use iScanner’s Cloud storage. Where’s my data stored, and how is it protected?

If you use our cloud storage, apart from your own device(s), your files will be stored on our servers within Amazon Web Services, the largest cloud service provider globally. AWS is used by 80% of the Fortune 500 companies and has the same security standards as military and global banks.

6. Can I secure my files with a password in iScanner?

Absolutely! Apart from the protection that your mobile device provides, you can add another layer by securing your files with a PIN code, face, or touch ID. You can restrict access to the entire app or particular files or folders. If you share a protected file with another person, they will need to enter a PIN code to open the file.

8. Where’s the iScanner’s headquarters located?

We’re based in the US. You can contact us at 6799 Collins Avenue, Office 1602, Miami Beach, FL, 33141 or by email [email protected].

9. Is iScanner compliant with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)?

Despite being a US-based company, we comply with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation because we provide services to EU citizens. We also adhere to the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA).

10. I’m a US/non-EU citizen. Does the EU’s GDPR apply to me?

Yes, if you choose a publisher that is compliant with the GDPR. iScanner adheres to the GDPR, so if you use iScanner, your personal data is under its protection.

11. Can I withdraw my personal information and all the permissions from the app?

Certainly! You can easily opt out by completing and sending us this form. However, depending on how much you wish to withdraw, the app might not maintain its functionality after that.

Still got questions? Don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. You can also take a look at our Privacy Policy—it’s available in the Settings menu in the app.
